Gor Mahia shift focus on crucial cup tie days after Mihic’s departure

Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) reigning champions Gor Mahia’s adjustment to life without coach Sinisa Mihic starts in earnest with a Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Shield Cup semifinal clash against Murang’a Seal this Sunday, May 25, 2025.
K’Ogalo, who have endured a spate of poor results in the league, hope the shift to cup games comes with good fortune as they look to reverse a streak that plunged them on the cusp of surrendering their bid to defend their league title.
Gor, who parted ways with the Croatian coach on Monday, May 19, 2025, faces a Seal team on resumption and is eyeing making the most of their newfound form.

The Yussuf Chippo-coached side, alongside Talanta FC, hit the headlines for their respective roles in slowing down Gor Mahia’s quest for an unprecedented 22nd league title.
Seals held Gor to a draw in their last outing, a result that breathed fresh impetus into their bid for top-flight league survival.
The results were preceded by a stunning victory against Sofapaka FC in what has been a couple of ties to warm up for the high-stakes meeting against Gor, with a final berth at stake.
Speaking ahead of the tie, Lawrence Juma stated that the team will need to rectify the mistakes made during a meeting against the two.
“We still stand a chance against an opponent we have faced recently. It was not an easy match, we learned aspects we need to correct, and we look to adjust accordingly,” he said.

Meanwhile, Gor’s Ghanaian midfield maestro Enock Morrison said the team is ready to turn the tide and record a winning result.
“As a team, we need to always go back to the training grounds and correct where we made mistakes. That is what we are committed to doing, and everybody is looking to get a win on Sunday and bring the motivation back to the fans,” he said in an interview with a local TV station.
In Mihic’s absence, Zedekiah Otieno and Michael Nam will steer K’Ogalo’s fort for the remaining three games that also include a clash against Leopards in the Mashemeji Derby on Sunday, June 1, 2025.
Gor- Seals clash on Sunday will be curtain-raised by a clash pitting Kenya Police FC and Mara Sugar.
The two KPL rivals clash in the quarterfinal stage of the cup after the KPL newbies bundled out Compel FC in the round of 16 rescheduled clash.
The winner of the tie will face newly promoted Nairobi United FC, who on Friday, May 23, 2025, secured their promotion to the Kenyan Premier League for the next season.
Kenya Police are the FKF Shield Cup defending champions after lifting their maiden top-flight trophy in 2024.
