Record Kenyan premier league champions Gor Mahia have unveiled a three-year sponsorship with gaming firm BetAfrique.

The deal worth Ksh76.5 million will also see Gor Mahia players get quality medical insurance courtesy of the gaming firm. With the club’s kitting having been a major issue at the club in the recent past, the gaming firm said Ksh5 million from the deal will go towards kitting and Ksh1.5 million for players’ insurance.

Speaking during the launch, club chairman Ambrose Rachier said the club will use the funds from the sponsorship deal to uplift the players.

“We are grateful for this deal and we shall use these to pay players salaries and club logistics. We were in a fix after the exit of Betsafe but now we are glad to have another sponsor,” he said.

The chairman also added that the club will now fight for the top spot once again in the Kenya premier league.

“This is a warning to other clubs. We are returning for our trophy and aim to finish top of the league,” he added.

Club captain Philemon Otieno has already fired warning shots to Premier League rivals after landing the mega sponsorship.

“Next season our aim is to go back to our usual spot. Things didn’t go well this season for us, but I can promise our fans that next season they shall be smiling at the end of it all,” he told the club’s official website.

Two weeks ago, Gor Mahia FC’s rivals AFC Leopards landed a mega deal of their own, signing a Ksh 60 million deal with another gaming firm, Spotika.

The two clubs had their sponsorship by gaming firm Betsafe terminated last season and have all been struggling to make ends meet with players and coaching staff going for months without pay.

Gor Mahia have gone for two seasons without a trophy having surrendered the last two FKF Premier League crowns to Tusker FC. The club is also serving a FIFA transfer ban meaning that they will not be able to sign new players until mid next season.
