Gor Mahia elections: Dolfina Odhiambo gets late clearance to challenge Rachier

Gor Mahia FC elections board has cleared the club’s outgoing treasurer, Dolfina Achieng Odhiambo, to battle it out with long-serving chairman Ambrose Rachier for the top seat.
The Gor Mahia FC elections board chairman, Gichu Wahome, in a press statement dated April 12, 2025, listed the names of the candidates that have been cleared to contest for the four vacant positions in the forthcoming elections.
The positions being contested for are the club’s chairman, which attracted two candidates, Dolfina Odhiambo and Rachier, who have been cleared to contest, and the vice chairperson position that has also seen two candidates, Sally Bolo and Victor Omondi, get cleared, with Sam Ochola and Nick Arum set to battle it out for the Secretary General post.
“This is to inform you that the Gor Mahia Football Club Election Board received applications for consideration and clearance to contest the four (4) vacant positions in the management of Gor Mahia Football Club.
“After a thorough scrutiny and review, the election board cleared the following candidates to contest in the forthcoming election. The position of chairperson (the position attracted two nominees), 1. Ms. ODHIAMBO Dolfina Achieng, 2. Mr. RACHIER Ambrose,” the statement read in part.
Philip Nyakwana and Gerphas Okuku will be vying for the position of Honorary Treasurer in the much-anticipated elections that are scheduled to take place on Sunday, April 13, 2025, at Nyayo National Stadium basketball gymnasium.
Rachier unopposed
The latest development is a contradiction to the club’s earlier statement that was revealed on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, that Rachier was the only candidate going for the top seat.
“This is to inform you that the Gor Mahia Football Club Election Board received the following applications for consideration and clearance to contest the four (4) vacant positions in the management of the Gor Mahia Football Club. After a thorough scrutiny and review, the Election Board cleared the following candidates to contest in the forthcoming election,” K’Ogalo stated.
Vice-chairperson post
Similarly, the position of vice-chairperson had attracted only one nominee, Victor Omondi, with Sally Bolo making an appearance in the latest development.
The elections come after a ruling by the Sports Disputes Tribunal (SDT) in January 2025 ordered the club to conduct elections within 90 days after its 2019 Constitution gave the current executive four years to serve.
The current office bearers were elected in 2020, and their mandate was supposed to expire on August 8, 2024.
Rachier has been Gor Mahia’s chairman since his election in 2008 and has successfully defended his seat in every election held since then.
