Gor Mahia chairperson Ambrose Rachier is set to extend his tenure at the helm even as the club goes into elections.

According to a statement from the club on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, Gor revealed that Rachier is the only candidate going for the top seat .

“This is to inform you know that Gor Mahia Football Club Election Board received the following applications for consideration and clearance to contest the four (4) vacant positions in the management of Gor Mahia Football Club. After a thorough scrutiny and review, the Election Board cleared the following candidates to contestants in the forthcoming election,” K’Ogalo stated.

Similarly, the position of vice-chairperson attracted only one nominee, Victor Omondi, ahead of the elections slated for Sunday, April 13, 2025.

The position of secretary general will be contested by three nominees including Sam Ochola, Nicanor Arum and Joseph Oyoo. On the other hand, the position of the honourary treasury will see two candidates, Gerphas Ogola and Philip Nyakwana, flex muscles on Sunday.

The elections come after a ruling by the Sports Disputes Tribunal (SDT) in January 2025 ordered the club to conduct elections within 90 days, after its 2019 Constitution gave the current executive four years to serve.

The current office bearers were elected in 2020, and their mandate was supposed to expire on August 8, 2024.

Rachier has been Gor Mahia’s chairman since his election in 2008 and has successfully defended his seat in every election held since then.
