Gor Mahia mounted a comeback to register a 3-1 win over Nzoia Sugar in a Football Kenya Federation Premier League match at Sudi Stadium on Saturday, April 13, 2024.

The win means K’Ogalo have opened a nine-point gap as they sit at the top of the table with 54 points.

Meanwhile, Nzoia Sugar have always been seen as Gor Mahia’s bogey team and took the lead, forcing the league giants to dig deep for an eventual win. Last season, the game ended in a 2-2 draw after the Sugar Millers took the lead and Gor Mahia fought back for a share of the spoils.

Daniel Simiyu gave the relegation-threatened Nzoia Sugar the lead, but Shariff Musa scored the equaliser for the Premier League champions just before the break.

A more ambitious Gor Mahia appeared in the second half, and they took the lead after a good move by Bryson Wangai and Musa. The former located the latter, who slotted home for the second goal.

Just after the goal, Wangai was replaced by Christopher Ochieng as Erick Masika came off for Rodgers Omondi, as head coach Johnathan McKinstry went for a double change.

Just before the end of regulation time, Benson Omala scored the third goal for Gor Mahia, who ended up piling more pressure on Nzoia Sugar, who are currently staring at an imminent relegation.

This is the first win for the Premier League since dropping points against Bandari and Kakamega Homeboyz. Against the Dockers, Gor Mahia lost by a margin of 1-0, and a 1-1 draw against Homeboyz was a result that was registered in a tightly fought duel in Machakos.

City Stars down Seal

Meanwhile, Nairobi City Stars saw off Murang’a Seal by claiming a 3-0 victory at the Police Pavillion in South C.

Japanese forward Yuto Kusaba scored his first Premier League goal as he converted from the spot for the City Stars’ third goal. Samuel Kapen was brought down by Ally Yusuf late in the second half.

Seal were reduced to 10 men, with Yusuf being sent off for the hard tackle on the City Stars’ forward.

Earlier, the teams failed to find an opener in the first half before City Stars grabbed the lead in the 54th minute through Mohammed Bajaber’s goal. The goal came from the penalty spot after Samuel Semo brought down Kapen.

Dennis Oalo scored the second after a clever run by Kapen, who beat Seal’s goalkeeper before squaring the ball to the scorer in the 59th minute.

At Mumias Sports Complex, Kakamega Homeboyz and Kariobangi Sharks shared points following a 1-1 draw.

Sharks scored through Moses Shikanda in the 22nd minute before experienced fullback Shafiq Batambuze equalised for the home side.
