Gor Mahia centre back Alphonce Omija has sealed a deal with Tunisian club Etoile Sportive after an impressive campaign for both his club and international front in recent years.

Omija, who came through the ranks at Gor Mahia Youth before joining Kariobangi Sharks, has joined the record-holding Tunisian giants, just days after he left Harambee Stars to complete the switch.

The club confirmed his arrival on Tuesday, September 9, 2025.

The deal comes after a successful outing with the Kenya Harambee Stars, where the marauding centre-back was an integral part of Benni McCarthy’s charges that went up to the quarterfinal stages in CHAN.

He formed a solid partnership with club teammate Silvester Owino as Kenya claimed three wins in the group stages.

He, however, turned a villain as he missed the decision spot kick in Harambee Stars’ eventual elimination at the hands of Madagascar.

At the club level, Omija has been a crucial cog in the Gor Mahia set-up in the 2024 season that culminated with the record champions finishing as runners-up to Kenya Police FC.

The versatile defender rejoined the club at the start of the season following his return from European stints as well as with Dhofar FC in Oman, where he won the Omani Cup with the Arab-based side.

Following the switch, Omjia took to his Facebook page to pen an emotional farewell to the club management and fans, reflecting with nostalgia on his time with the green and white of Gor.

Farewell

“GOR MAHIA WILL FOREVER BE MY HOME. Since joining @gormahiayouthfc, and for the past year, playing for Gor Mahia has been a true honour. Very incredible, full of emotions, will miss every moment, battle, and smile we shared. Wishing you the very best in the future,” he stated.

“To the #GreenArmySupporters – Thank you for your love and support. You made it more beautiful. Wish I could have said goodbye in a better way, but just know my love for you is endless.
