Gor Mahia FC head coach Johnathan McKinstry appears unfazed by Benson Omalla’s recent goal drought in the FKF Premier League, despite the striker leading the scoring charts this season.

Although Omalla has failed to find the net in the last seven matches, McKinstry attributes this to facing tough goalkeepers.

He remains unconcerned, emphasizing that Omalla has still been posing a threat to opposition keepers even without scoring.

“It’s not that he hasn’t been getting chances but top goalkeepers like Patrick Matasi and Brian Bwire prevented him from scoring against Tusker and Kenya Police. As long as he continues to trouble goalkeepers, we’ll encourage him to keep applying pressure,” McKinstry commented after the match.

Despite Omalla’s failed move to Algeria, McKinstry appreciates the fans’ support for the player, evident in placards reading ‘We fully support you, our top scorer.’

While acknowledging the disappointment of missing out on the opportunity, McKinstry remains optimistic that Omalla will seize another chance when it arises.

“Benson is an integral part of the team, and I was pleased with the fans’ response to him. It’s unfortunate he didn’t secure the deal, but I believe another opportunity will come his way,” McKinstry added.

In the previous season, Omalla finished second in the scoring charts behind Elvis Rupia, then with Kenya Police, with Rupia scoring 27 goals and Omalla notching 26.
