Former Gor Mahia coach, Frank Ouna, has voiced his criticism towards the club, citing their lack of a dedicated stadium and leadership with a clear vision.

Ouna’s remarks come in light of the recent revelation that Gor Mahia will have to host their CAF Confederations Cup and Champions League matches in stadiums outside of Kenya, as Nyayo and Moi Kasarani stadiums failed to obtain clearance from CAF.

Gor Mahia to use TZ venues

An official from Gor Mahia was quoted in the media confirming that the team will have to play their matches in Tanzania.

Reacting to this news, Ouna expressed his disappointment, stating, “What a shame for Kenya and Gor Mahia in this 21st century. Gor should have their own stadium. Myopic leadership. Gross mismanagement for ages. Trophies are not a legacy.”

Ouna further criticized the lack of vision and ideas within successive leadership at the club, claiming that they have undermined the potential of Gor Mahia as a prominent team.

He highlighted the absence of a dedicated stadium, recurring FIFA bans, a lack of a team bus, and subpar training equipment as manifestations of a small-team mentality and mismanagement.

Gor Mahia’s mentality

“Successive leadership have lacked vision, and ideas and have deliberately subverted the cause of this potential big team. For now, no stadium, constant FIFA bans, no team bus, and even training equipment are mediocre. Small team mentality,” he stated.

The coach, who parted ways with Gor Mahia in 2016 due to poor working conditions, emphasized the urgent need for change.

Despite being the second oldest club in the top tier and the most successful club, Gor Mahia have struggled to secure a permanent stadium, relying on venues such as Nyayo Stadium, Kasarani Stadium, Moi Stadium Kisumu, and Afraha Stadium for their matches.

The inability to have a home ground has proven to be a significant challenge for the club, particularly in continental competitions.

lack of a proper stadium infrastructure has hindered Gor Mahia’s progress and potential growth.
