The friendly match pitting FKF Premier League Giants Gor Mahia FC and Tanzanian side Azam FC has been cancelled.

The match was slated for November 19, 2023, at Moi International but a confirmation by both clubs has revealed it will not go on as planned.

Gor Mahia issue apology

Gor Mahia issued an apology to its fans announcing that the match had been cancelled while Azam on their part said the match was off due to reasons beyond their control.

The club has set up a home-friendly match against JKU from Zanzibar with the match set to kick off at 7:00 am at their Azam Complex Stadium.

“#MatchCancelled Kutokana na sababu zilizo nje ya uwezo wetu, mchezo wetu wa kirafiki dhidi ya Gor Mahia uliotakiwa kufanyika Jumapili hii nchini Kenya, sasa haupo tena. Baada ya kukosekana kwa mchezo huo, badala yake kikosi chetu kutacheza dhidi ya JKU ya Zanzibar, utakaofanyika Uwanja wa Azam Complex keshokutwa Jumapili saa 1.00 usiku, (#MatchCancelled Due to reasons beyond our control, our friendly match against Gor Mahia scheduled for this Sunday in Kenya is now cancelled. In lieu of this cancellation, our team will instead face JKU from Zanzibar at the Azam Complex Stadium the day after tomorrow, on Sunday at 7:00 a.m,” Azam revealed.

Gor Mahia fined

The cancellation comes after Gor Mahia were slapped with a fine of over Ksh1.9 million and banned from playing at Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani following fans’ violent behaviour during their last weekend’s match against Murang’a Seal.

The friendly was run at a time when the two clubs were on a break following FKF Premier League and Tanzania Premier League were off to allow the National team to feature in the World Cup qualifiers.
