Gor Mahia to represent Kenya in CECAFA Kagame Cup
Kenya Premier League Champions Gor Mahia will represent the country in the upcoming Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) Kagame Cup in Tanzania and Zanzibar between July 6-22.
Champions from each of the 12 member federations will be joined by invitational teams in a bid to boost competition. TP Mazembe who are five-time African Champions, Malawian champions Nyasa Big Bullets, and Zambian League Winners Red Arrows will all grace the tournament on an invitational basis.
Guests Nyasa Bullets from Malawi lost in the finals to Yanga of Tanzania in the last edition of the tournament held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania in 2021.

The tournament which makes a return after a two-year hiatus will be used as a preseason platform for the teams before the kick-off of the 2024/2025 CAF Champions League and CAF Confederations Cup.
Gor Mahia won the competitions on three occasions, (1980, 1981, and 1985) in what marked the dominance of Kenya in the region.
Tusker FC is the most recent Kenyan winner of the tournament. The Brewers beat Uganda Revenue Authority 2-1 back in 2008 to win the tournament held in Tanzania.
Since then Tanzanian clubs have won it four times, Rwandan teams have won twice while Ugandan clubs have defended the title twice in the most recent editions. Burundi’s Vital’O won the tournament in 2013 while Sudan’s Al-Merrikh were victors in 2014.
