Golf giants clash beneath the peaks

Some 200 elite amateur golfers will descend on the scenic Nanyuki Sports Club tomorrow for the eighth leg of the KCB East Africa Golf Tour, with top honours and a coveted spot in the season’s grand finale up for grabs.
The top two teams from the Nanyuki leg will qualify for the December 5, 2025, finale, whose venue is yet to be disclosed.
This particular series builds on the momentum from the Kericho leg, where Nicholas Korir, Leonard Kiplangat, Munga Marisoi, Benson Magolo, Bill Kalya, Ben Kalya, Judy Chebon alongside Debra Koske earned their places in the final.
With the backdrop of Mt Kenya, Nanyuki Sports Club is ready to test the skills of competitors with its wide fairways and slow greens. Club Captain Michael Mwirigi expressed confidence in the course’s readiness and excitement ahead of the event.
“We are looking forward to welcoming golfers from across the region. Our course has been in top shape, and we’ve worked tirelessly to prepare for this tournament. It is a proud moment for Nanyuki,” Mwirigi said.
The tournament also underlines KCB’s commitment to the growth of golf in the region.
KCB Group Director of Marketing and Communications Rosalind Gichuru said the tour has elevated East Africa as a golfing hub while also strengthening ties across the region.
“The KCB East Africa Golf Tour has been instrumental in positioning East Africa as a premier golfing destination. Beyond that, we have also strengthened regional unity, expanded the sport and bolstered socio-economic development,” said Gichuru, adding that the Nanyuki leg offers a valuable chance to engage with golf enthusiasts from the Mt Kenya region.
The ultimate champions will walk away with a whopping Sh1 million to boost a sustainability project at their home club, alongside a sponsorship deal for an international golf event.
The tour will next tee off at Karen Country Club on May 31, 2025.
