Second day of the Tennis Kenya Junior Challenge Series Doubles event saw interesting duels on the court at the Nairobi Club in both the Girls and Boys matches.

The first two matches in the Girls Doubles had different characteristics but still lived up to expectations with the juniors having a good go at each other in play.

The round robin series sees the pair of Reha Kipsang and Faith Urasa lead the standings with six points off three wins in a total six sets played.

The pair beat the duo of Shakira Varese and Sharza Gadhia in straight sets of 7-5/6-1 in one hour of play in the Girls Doubles.

The first set was tight with Varese and Gadhia thrice breaking their opponents in a set that was close to be decided by a tie-break.

However, the composure and quick thinking in the eye of pressure saw Urasa and Kipsang soar above to the set close as their challengers begun making a flurry of errors especially on serve.

Gadhia particularly was a bit lethargic and seemed to run out of stamina in a match played under heavy sunlight.

In the second set, Varese and Gadhia were out of sorts spraying most of their returns wayward thus losing out on crucial points.

“We are happy with this performance, for us it is about building momentum in every match.

This partnership between us is definitely working well. I believe whatever happens in this tournament, we would have benefited hugely,” said 14 year old Faith Urasa.

Her partner Reha Kipsang on her part attributed their good run of three wins to good chemistry on and off the court.

In the Boys Doubles, the pair of Reesh Haria and Sahil Chana was absolutely on fire as they downed the duo of Benjamin Tekeo and James Kang’ethe in straight sets of 6-0/6-0 in just under an hour of play. Both sets saw Haria and Chana stanp their authority on their opponents.

well executed returns to get points. Next they face the duo of Faruk Juma and Gilbert Omwitsa who have promised to teach their rivals a lesson.

Stated Faruk: “We know their style but we are not afraid. It is all about confidence and we are going only for the win. It is important for us to finish the year on a high.”
