Kenyan celebrity Gidi Gidi has called on Football Kenya Federation Premier League defending champions Gor Mahia to visit the Kanyamwa shrine.

Kanyamwa shrine is in Nyanza, where the majority of the top-tier club’s fans are believed to reside.

Gidi Gidi defended his post where he called on K’Ogalo to visit the place, saying critics have little understanding of spiritual matters.

“Those questioning my request for Gor Mahia to have annual visits to Kanyamwa need to have a deeper understanding of spiritual issues.

“Traditional spiritual beliefs vary widely across cultures and regions, but they generally involve a set of practices, rituals, and values that connect individuals with a higher power or forces of nature,” Gidi Gidi said in a Facebook post.

To the radio presenter, spirituality is central to human beings as it brings cohesion, among other factors.

“These beliefs often play a crucial role in shaping cultural identity, community cohesion, and individual well-being.

“While the importance of traditional spiritual beliefs can vary among individuals, they undeniably contribute to the rich tapestry of human cultures, providing a source of meaning, connection, and guidance in the face of life’s complexities.

“Gor Mahia, as a community club, has to maintain a spiritual connection for community cohesion. Bring Gor Mahia to Kanyamwa,” he concluded.

Bolo defends Gidi Gidi

Gidi Gidi’s comments were echoed by a former Gor Mahia national official, Sally Bolo.

“Gor Mahia Football Club holds a profound connection to Kanyamwa, a place of significance for the Gor Mahia fraternity. The majority of you seem not to understand what Joe Gidi is talking about.

“As the former national treasurer of the Gor Mahia FC, I would love to associate myself with what Gidi is saying, that going to Kanyamwa has a deeper meaning to the Gor Mahia Football Club and should not be taken for granted,” Bolo wrote on her X handle.

While stressing the need to visit the place, Bolo was categorical, saying that not everyone visits the shrine.

“Gidi, I would like to remind you that not everyone goes there since it’s a sacred place. Only clean club officials who have never betrayed the club and have good intentions can visit the place, so if you see them not visiting Kanyamwa, it’s because they are afraid of consequences.

“In the old days, it was a must-visit before the season kicked off. To those in charge of the club now, please don’t deviate from our traditions. The club has always practiced this since 1968. On the contrary, Juogi will teach you a lesson,” she concluded.

Gor Mahia are currently at the top of the Premier League table and look on course to defend the title for their 21st overall.
