Gaborone United signs John Makwata, Duncan Otieno

Kenyan Internationals John Mark Makwata and Duncan Otieno have completed moves to Gaborone United.

The two were confirmed by the Botswana Champions on Wednesday, having each signed a two-year deal. Otieno joins the side from FKF Premier League side Kenya Police.

2-year-deal

“Former Lusaka Power Dynamos and Kenya Police Football Club midfielder Duncan Otieno has joined Gaborone United on a 2-year-deal. Otieno joins The Reds from Kenya Police Football Club,” the Reds announced on Wednesday.

Otieno joins the club with vast experience having played for  A.F.C. Leopards for two stints, Posta Rangers, Nkana and Lusaka Dynamos. He made his international debut for Kenya in 2017 and has 12 senior national team caps as a midfielder.

Makwata’s confirmation

“Former Kenya Police Football Club striker John Mark Makwata has penned a 2-year deal with Gaborone United,” reads Makwata confirmation.

“Makwata is a former Zesco United FC, AFC Leopards, Al-Nasr SC, Burgan SC and Buildcon FC striker,” the statement.

Makwata began his career as a midfielder at JMJ Academy before moving on to Nairobi City Stars, where coach Jan Koops transformed him into a striker. He spent three seasons with the Nairobi-based club before joining Ulinzi Stars FC.

At Ulinzi Stars, between 2013 to 2016, he made over 60 appearances and netted 38. He later moved to Buildcon making 23 appearances and scoring 12 goals.

Makwata returned to the local league and featured for AFC Leopards where he netted 14 goals in 16 matches. He moved back to Zambia to play for Zesco United. He also had stints at Al Nasr and Burgan before returning to the FKF Premier League.

He has 14 caps for Kenya senior national team.
