The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has announced plans to establish official FanZones for supporters who missed out on tickets for Sunday’s highly anticipated Group A clash between Kenya and Zambia at the Kasarani Stadium.

In a Tuesday, August 12, 2025, press conference, FKF President Hussein Mohammed confirmed that the move is aimed at ensuring all fans can still enjoy the match atmosphere even without gaining entry to the stadium.

The move comes after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) imposed stringent measures for Kenya’s upcoming home matches at Kassarani over FKF’s failure to control overcrowding during past matches at the venue. FKF President has urged fans with valid tickets to show up much earlier for verification on Sunday and the upcoming match days.

Overcrowding solution

“I urge all Kenyans to turn up at least five hours earlier on matchdays with their digital tickets. We will set official FanZone areas for those who were unable to get the tickets from the official vendors,” Hussein Mohammed said.

The FKF boss also reiterated the importance of purchasing tickets through authorised platforms, warning fans against falling victim to unauthorised sellers. “We all urge all supporters to strictly purchase tickets from official ticket vendors online from CAF,” the FKF boss emphasised.

On his part, the 2024 TotalEnergies African Nations Championship Local Organising Committee (LOC) Chairman Nicholas Musonye issued a stern warning to ticketless supporters trying to access match venues. Musonye made it clear that entry to stadiums will be strictly controlled.

“No one will access the stadium without a ticket. We will enforce by all means possible because our reputation is at stake. Gates shall be opened at the right time to allow things to run smoothly and minimise crowds outside the stadium,” Musonye stated.

The measures come as demand for tickets has soared, with excitement building around the continental showdown. FKF hopes that the FanZones will offer a safe and enjoyable alternative for those unable to secure entry into the stadium while ensuring security and order are maintained.

Meanwhile, CAF has warned that failure of the Football Kenya Federation and the government to fully comply could result in more severe sanctions, including relocating future fixtures to alternative venues.
