Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has announced the dates and venues for the promotion/relegation playoff between Wazito and Migori Youth.

The playoff matches will determine which team secures a place in the FKF Premier League for the upcoming season.

FKF PL/NSL first leg

The first leg of the playoff will take place at the Migori Stadium on Saturday, July 15, 2023. The two teams will battle it out in a crucial match as Migori Youth, who finished third in the 2022/23 FKF National Super League with 62 points, seeks promotion to the top-tier league.

On the other hand, Wazito will be fighting tooth and nail to avoid relegation after finishing 16th in the 2022/23 FKF Premier League.

Following the conclusion of the first leg, the teams will head to the Muhoroni Stadium for the second leg, scheduled to be played on Saturday, July 22, 2023.

This decisive match will determine which team earns the coveted spot in the FKF Premier League.

Both matches are expected to be highly intense and closely contested, with each team aiming to achieve their respective goals.

Wazito in FKF PL/NSL promotion again

Wazito FC find themselves in the promotion/relegation playoff for the second consecutive season, having narrowly avoided relegation in the previous campaign.

In last season’s playoff, they secured a 2-1 victory in the first leg but suffered a 3-2 defeat in the second leg. However, thanks to the away goals rule, Wazito survived the tie with a 4-4 aggregate score.

Migori Youth, on the other hand, will be seeking to replicate the success achieved by Kenya Police in the playoffs, as they aim to secure promotion to the FKF Premier League.

In 2021, Kenya Police made history by becoming the first-ever National Super League team to defeat a Premier League side in the playoffs. They sealed their qualification by defeating Vihiga United 1-0 in the second leg, which took place at the Utalii Grounds.

This remarkable achievement by Kenya Police in the playoffs marked a significant milestone in the relegation and promotion system.

It demonstrated that National Super League teams possess the potential to overcome Premier League opponents and secure their place in the top tier of Kenyan football.

Migori Youth will now look to draw inspiration from Kenya Police’s success as they embark on their own quest for promotion in the playoffs.
