FKF President Hussein Mohammed says Kenya has cemented its place as Africa’s football hub
By Cy Muganda, August 31, 2025Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed has hailed the just-concluded African Nations Championship (CHAN) as a defining moment for the country, saying it has solidified Kenya’s status as the continent’s football hub.
In a statement posted on his X account on Saturday, August 30, 2025, Hussein celebrated Morocco’s championship victory while emphasising how the tournament’s success has elevated Kenya’s status within African football governance and hosting capabilities.
“Congratulations to Morocco for clinching a historic third CHAN title after a thrilling 3-2 win over Madagascar. Commendations as well to Madagascar for their spirited fight and unforgettable journey,” he said.
Football hub status
Hussein stressed that the conclusion of CHAN had set a new benchmark for sporting excellence in the region and positioned Kenya as a leading force in African football.
“With #CHAN2024 successfully concluded, the bar has been set high. Kenya has firmly cemented its place as the epicentre of African football,” he declared.
The FKF President positioned the tournament’s successful delivery as evidence of Kenya’s readiness to host the continent’s most prestigious football events.
“We now look ahead with optimism to AFCON 2027,” he added.

The FKF boss extended his gratitude to the Kenyan government and fans for their support, saying their energy and commitment were crucial in delivering a memorable tournament.
“I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the Government of Kenya for its support and to our fans whose energy and passion brought this tournament to life,” he added.

Global football stage
His comments echoed those of Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya, who praised the hosting of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) as a demonstration of Kenya’s capability to host international football events.
In a statement on his Facebook account on Saturday, August 30, 2025, Mvurya highlighted the significance of hosting CHAN 2024 beyond just the results on the pitch, noting that the tournament showcased Kenya’s organisational capacity and readiness for more international football events.
“CHAN 2024 has been nothing short of incredible — showcasing the beauty of football in bringing people together and igniting pure excitement across the continent,” he affirmed.

Mvurya further expressed pride in hosting the closing ceremony and final match, stating that the smooth execution of the tournament paves the way for new opportunities for the country.
“As we draw the curtains on CHAN 2024, we do so with pride — and we open a world of possibilities for more international matches on Kenyan soil, having once again demonstrated our readiness and potential on the global stage,” he said.
