FKF president cautions Harambee Stars fans ahead of crucial clash
By Joel Masibo, August 22, 2025The Football Kenya Federation President, Hussein Mohammed, has urged Harambee Stars fans to rally behind the team responsibly ahead of the 2024 TotalEnergies African Nations Championships quarter-finals matches.
Kenya’s Harambee Stars will be in action on Friday, August 22, 2025, seeking to reach the CHAN 2024 semi-finals when they take on Madagascar in the tournament’s quarter-finals at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, starting at 5 pm local time.
The stage is set for a monumental evening at Kasarani Stadium as Kenya’s Men’s National Football Team, Harambee Stars, takes on Madagascar in the quarterfinals of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN). Kick-off is scheduled for 5:00 PM, and anticipation is running high as Kenyans prepare to throw their full weight behind the team.
Crowd control
In a bid to curb overcrowding and possible breach of safety protocols put in place by CAF, Hussein Mohammed has requested that Harambee Stars supporters rally behind the team cautiously to evade the wrath of CAF after previous fines by the continent’s football governing body. Hussen, however, acknowledges the fans for their unwavering support towards Harambee Stars.
“To our fans – you’ve carried the team this far, and your support remains their greatest strength. This evening, the stakes are higher, and your voice matters even more. Let’s fill the stadium early, cheer responsibly, and stand united behind our boys,” the statement added.
For supporters unable to make it to Kasarani, Hussein Mohhamed asked them to use the identified fan zones established across the country to ensure no Kenyan misses out on the moment. The viewing centres have been drawing huge crowds, bringing together communities in a shared spirit of football and patriotism.
The Harambee Stars head into this clash buoyed by an impressive run in the group stages, where they held their own against continental powerhouses. A win for Harambee Stars against Madagascar will see them reach the Championship’s semi-finals, where they will meet either Sudan or Algeria.
This year’s CHAN has seen all three host nations, Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania reach the quarter-finals of the showpiece for the first time in the competition’s history, with Harambee Stars having an impressive debut season at CHAN.
