FKF CUP: Gor maestro Austin Odhiambo hails timing of clash against Sharks
By Luke Oluoch, May 1, 2025Gor Mahia midfield maestro Austin Odhiambo has declared his team’s readiness for the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Cup quarterfinal clash against Kariobangi Sharks.
Sinisa Mihic’s team faces off against Sharks this Thursday, May 1, 2025, in Dandora Stadium, and Odhiambo believes the clash could not have come at a more opportune time.
The midfielder insists the title-chasing K’Ogalo approaches the clash tails up after snapping their three-game winless streak in Sunday’s 4-0 win against Mara Sugar.
“The morale in the team is good. We had gone for three games without a win. We finally got our win over the weekend, and it has lifted the morale within the camp. We won on a huge margin, and it has boosted our confidence,” the midfielder told the club’s media site.
The player further emphasised the need for belief and focus as Gor looks to continue its charge for their league defense and a season’s double.
In addition to featuring among the quarterfinals of the Cup, the 21-time league champions are also among the five teams in contention for the league title with six games to go.
Gor is currently locked in a tight race for the league honours with fellow title hopeful sides in Kenya Police and Tusker FC.
“The game against Sharks is coming at the right time. We have to approach each game at a time. We have the prospect of winning the league title and the cup, and with better focus, it can be done,” he added.
Odhiambo’s sentiment echoes coach Mihic’s past remarks over the importance of the remaining engagements for the Kenyan giants.
Speaking on Saturday, April 19, 2025, the Croat likened the clashes to Champions League finals, which need to be approached with utmost seriousness.

“We are heading towards the conclusion of the season, and we remain focused. We will need to be at our best in terms of concentration and discipline ahead of what is like ten finals in the league and the Cup. Every game now is like the final of the Champions League, and we have to give them the seriousness they deserve. We have a plan, which is to win our games,” the coach said citing Gor’s 2-1 win over Bandari in the prevoius stage.
