List of individual award winners in 2024 FKF Cup
Kenya Police’s David Owino won the Most Valuable Player award as the FKF Cup season came to an end on Saturday at Ulinzi Complex.
Owino earned the award after playing a key role in helping his side win their first-ever major trophy since being promoted.
FKF Cup golden glove
His teammate and goalkeeper, Patrick Matasi, maintained four clean sheets throughout the tournament, earning him the Golden Glove award.
Matasi also won the Man of the Match award for his heroic performance in the final, where he saved several penalties and scored the winning penalty, earning a humanitarian cheque worth Ksh100,000.
AFC Leopards striker Arthur Gitego bagged the Golden Boot award, having scored five goals in the Cup competition. The Rwandese striker was part of the Leopards squad that finished third in the competition.
Kenya Police secured a ticket to the CAF Confederation Cup campaign for next season after beating KCB FC 8-7 in a post-match penalty shootout in the Football Kenya Federation Cup final.
The match, held at Ulinzi Sports Complex, ended in a goalless draw, forcing the winner to be decided from the spot-kicks.
Harambee Stars goalkeeper Patrick Matasi was the hero for the cops after saving penalties taken by Collins Neto and Shadrack Simiyu.
The game was equally balanced in the opening 10 minutes before Philemon Nyakwaka forced Matasi into a quick intervention in the 15th minute.
Kenya Police had their chances to break the deadlock, with attempts by Clinton Kinanga and David Owino going wide.
A combination between Neto and Henry Onyango almost gave the Bankers an opener, but Neto misdirected his header despite being in a good position.
Nyakwaka spotted Danson Namaskha in a good goalscoring position after the second half had just begun, but Namaskha could not beat Matasi in a one-on-one situation.
Kenya Police responded to KCB’s attacks by pressing the opponents and almost grabbed a goal after a neat combination between Francis Kahata and Charles Ouma. However, they failed to capitalize on the opportunity.
In the penalty shootout, Danson Chetambe, Collins Neto, Francis Oduor, Bernard Odhiambo, Stephen Etyang, Kevin Okumu, and Atariza Mungai converted for the Bankers, while Shadrack Simiyu and David Okoth missed their shootouts.
Musa Mohamed, Rashid Toha, Kinanga, Kenneth Muguna, Tyson Otieno, David Owino, Aboud Omar, and Matasi scored for Kenya Police.
Apart from securing the Confederation Cup ticket, Kenya Police will earn Ksh2 million as a cash prize from the cup’s sponsors.
