FIFA President Gianni Infantino has praised Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda for successfully co-hosting the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN). Speaking in Nairobi, ahead of the tournament’s final, in Saturday, August 30, 2025, Infantino described the event as a milestone for East African football and a proud moment for the continent.

“It is a great, great pleasure for me to be here, in my country, in Kenya, in my continent, Africa,” he said with a broad smile. “Congratulations to the three host countries, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. Congratulations to CAF as well for organising this great event. My brother Patrice Motsepe and his entire team have done an excellent job.”

Infantino also praised the fans and communities who turned out in large numbers throughout the competition. He stressed that football’s growth depends on the support of both boys and girls, adding that FIFA remains committed to nurturing young talent across the continent.

“As FIFA President, football is important not only here in Africa but all over the world. It is our job and our responsibility to make the talent in Africa grow and shine on the global stage,” he explained.

Infantino champions African talent

The Swiss-Italian administrator highlighted ongoing investments in youth football academies and talent development centres, saying that African players have unique qualities that need structured support.

“The talent you have here is definitely something very special,” he said.

Infantino’s presence at Kasarani, alongside CAF President Patrice Motsepe, underscored FIFA’s recognition of the progress being made in African football administration and competition.

This year’s CHAN has been historic, with East Africa hosting the tournament for the first time. Despite Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda all bowing out at the quarter-final stage, the event has been widely praised for its organisation, atmosphere and cultural colour.

Saturday’s final, pitting Morocco against first-time finalists Madagascar, is expected to draw a packed crowd. Before kick-off, fans will enjoy performances from Kenyan star Savara, Ugandan Grammy nominee Eddy Kenzo and Tanzanian sensation Zuchu.

Infantino closed his address with words of gratitude.

“Thanks for having us here, congratulations for everything you do. I am really, really happy to be here.”
