Kenya’s elite rugby rivals Kabras Sugar Rugby and Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) are set to revive their rivalry on the pitch on Sunday, August 24, 2025, as the race for the Embu 7s title heats up with the Main Cup quarterfinal clashes.

According to the fixtures released by the Kenya Rugby Union, this Saturday, August 23, 2025, circuit leaders KCB Rugby Club will face off against Westerners in one of the highly billed knockout clashes.

Kabras, who made their way out of Pool B, comprising an in-form Strathmore Leos, Impala RFC, and newly promoted Kabete Stallions, will be out to exact revenge against Denis Mwanja’s team, who are running on a dream form heading to the Embu circuit.

The team shrugged off a narrow 15-14 defeat to Leos to beat Impala and Stallions 36-12 and 26-0, respectively, to qualify from the group.

Their task in the next phases is, however, well cut out against the current circuit leaders, Bankers, who have so far won two editions of the ongoing Rugby Sevens national circuit.

KCB RFC dominated proceedings in Pool A, with commanding victories without conceding against tournament hosts Embu RFC and Daystar Falcons.

KCB cruise

Their sternest test yet came in the shape of Mwamba RFC during their second group tie. The fancied team, however, dealt with the threat decisively, rallying from 14–0 down to claim a 29–14 win.

Other clashes in the Main Cup quarters will see Strathmore Leos face off against an improving Daystar Falcons team.

The Falcons punched their way from a tough Pool A to claim a second quarterfinal slot following their impressive run in the Christie 7s.

Other Quarters pairing

The scholars’ run in the Christie 7s was brought to a stop in a 27-0 hiding from KCB, who went on to clinch the series.

On their part, Leos are gearing up for a fourth consecutive semis this 7s season after downing Catholic Monks 29-7 in the quarters of the Christie 7s.

Nakuru’s Wanyore will also be in action against Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST).

The final quarterfinal pairing will see Kenya Harlequins battle it out with Menengai Oilers in what is also expected to produce fireworks of its kind.

Geoffrey Ominde’s Oilers side will be targeting improved tidings after losing the 2025 Christie 7s title to KCB.
