World Marathon record holder Eliud Kipchoge has declared that he has trained his eyes on the 2024 Olympics to be held in Paris, France.

“I want to announce that God-willing, I will compete at the Paris Summer Games and hopefully improve on my record to inspire the young athletes who would wish to emulate me,” Kipchoge told People Sport.

The Paris Games will mark the centenary of the Paris Games of 1924, and will be the sixth Olympic games hosted by France (three in summer and three in winter), and the first Olympic Games in France since the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville.

Olympic gold medalist

Kipchoge a two-time Olympic gold medallist made the announcement to participate in the games after being hosted by Isuzu East Africa yesterday in a launch held in his honor and which was dubbed “Eliud Kipchoge D Max”

Kipchoge broke his own world marathon record two weeks ago in Berlin, Germany after clocking 2.01.09 in a performance that sent tongues wagging.

He reckoned that after his exploits at last month’s Berlin Marathon in which he broke his own record, he had decided to take a rest to recover from energy-sapping races.

“I want to take a rest and I believe I will come back even stronger. For now, my mind is free and what is paramount is to leave a good legacy when I call it quits in the sport. But before I do it, I want to improve on my record,” he said.

He added: “I think this will be possible for good measure and winning all six races will put charisma in young runners. They should keep on believing that they too can make it.”

The star also hinted that while he takes a rest off-track, he will concentrate on the Eliud Kipchoge Foundation to get the best out of budding athletes.

Kipchoge, a two-time Olympic Marathon champion, thanked Isuzu East Africa for appreciating his success and urged other corporations to emulate the company.

Victory in Berlin

Speaking at the event, the Managing Director of Isuzu East Africa Rita Kavashe, said: “Today, we celebrate Eliud Kipchoge’s victory in Berlin, for being our friend, and for being a global role model to different generations of people.

We are delighted to announce that over the next few months, Isuzu EastAfrica will introduce to the market an Eliud Kipchoge 1:59 Limited Special

D-Max Edition. To honor Eliud’s vision of running a sub-two marathon in a competition, this special edition pickup will have 159 units to be sold on a first come, first served basis.”

Kavashe, who was flanked by Isuzu East Africa chairman Hiroshi Hisatomi, said the company appreciated the role of sports in the country, adding that suicidal tendencies by the youth will be greatly reduced if they embraced the same as a career.
