Duel of Starlets beckons
Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Women Cup defending champions Ulinzi Starlets will be hoping to gun down their round of 32 opponents Gusii Starlets if they want to retain the coveted cup.
The eagerly anticipated clash between the champions against their FKF Women Division One Zone B challengers will be staged at Ulinzi Sports Complex on March 18. The federation conducted a live round of 32 draw yesterday at the Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE) in Nairobi.
In Pool A, 2021 CAF Women Champions League CECAFA Qualifiers Champions Vihiga Queens will be travelling to Kisumu County to fight against hosts Kolwa Falcons.
Meanwhile, Vikers Queens will take on Royal Starlets while UOE Queens will face-off with Eldoret Falcons before Coast Starlets and Kisumu All Starlets play against Mombasa Olympics and MTG United respectively.
Nairobi based Sunderland Samba will be hoping to be on their best footing when they take on Kisped Queens as the last match in the pool will see Kangemi Ladies play against Soccer sisters FC.
Elsewhere in Pool B, defending Women Premier League (WPL) champions Thika Queens will be favorites on paper against Migori Educational Centre.
Speaking during the draws, Thika Queens Captain Wendy Achieng who currently is the top scorer in the women top flight league with 13 goals stated she is ready to help the team realize its dreams of bagging the trophy.
“I believe our team has got quality of players with experience that can help us not only carry the trophy home but also win the league,” Quipped Achieng.
Zetech Sparks who are currently struggling in WPL at position nine on the log 12 team table with 9 points will be hoping to make an impact when they take on an equally strong opponent, Bungoma Queens.
Nakuru County based Nakuru City FC will be clashing with Young Bullets as Gaspo Women will be battling it out with Macmillan Queens. Kasabet Starlets and Kayole starlets will be expecting to advance to the next stage by upsetting Kibera Soccer Ladies and Falling Water FC respectively.
Other teams that will be hoping to be on their best footing in the tournament will be Kahawa Queens who will be taking to the Centre stage against a rather stubborn challenger in the name of Bunyore Starlets. The last clash will see Gideon Starlets lock horns against fortune ladies.
