Driftwood 7s: KRU unveil Pools for National 7s Circuit second leg

The Kenya Rugby Union has announced the pools for the upcoming Driftwood 7s, the second leg of the National 7s Circuit, scheduled to take place on July 8-9, 2023, at Mombasa Sports Club.

Following their victory in the Dala 7s, KCB Rugby has been seeded top in Pool A and will go head-to-head with Nakuru RFC, Nondies, and Blak Blad, who received an invitation to compete in the top division.

Driftwood 7s Pool D

Kabras Sugar, who finished as runners-up in the Dala 7s, will headline Pool B and face off against two-time National 7s Circuit Champions Homeboyz, Kisumu, and the hosts Mombasa.

In Pool C, Strathmore Leos will compete alongside circuit defending champions Menengai Oilers, Catholic Monks, and MMUST.

Kenya Harlequin find themselves in Pool D, which also includes the defending Driftwood champions Mwamba, Daystar Falcons, and Kabarak University, winners of the division two competition in Kisumu.

With their victory in Kisumu, KCB currently leads the standings with an impressive tally of 22 points, placing them three points ahead of their closest rivals, Kabras Sugar.

Strathmore third ahead Driftwood

Strathmore Leos sit in third place with 17 points, following their thrilling 24-19 win over Kenya Harlequin in sudden death.

Mwamba Rugby Club hold the fifth position with 13 points, while the reigning circuit champions, Menengai Oilers, find themselves in sixth place with 12 points, determined to defend their title in the upcoming rounds.

Nakuru and Homeboyz secure the seventh and eighth slots, respectively, both accumulating 10 points. Nondies closely follow in ninth place with 8 points, while Kisumu take the tenth position with 7 points, demonstrating their potential to climb higher in the standings.

Catholic Monks and Daystar Falcons claim the 11th and 12th spots, respectively, each earning 5 points. Western Bulls find themselves in the 13th position with 3 points, while Masinde Muliro occupy the 14th position with 2 points.

Mombasa and Makueni complete the standings, holding 1 point each in the 15th and 16th positions, respectively.

Break after circuit

The National 7s Circuit will take a brief pause as the highly anticipated World Rugby U20 Trophy takes place in Nairobi from July 15 to July 30.

The excitement will then resume with the third round, the Prinsloo 7s, which will electrify Nakuru City at the Nakuru Athletic Club on August 5-6.

The prestigious Christie 7s, where top teams will battle for glory, will take place at Nairobi’s RFUEA Ground on August 12-13.
