KCB RFC Sevens head coach Dennis Mwanja says the team is ready for the tough assignment this weekend at the Dala Sevens rugby tournament in Kisumu County.

The National Sevens Circuit champions and current leaders KCB put their title defense on the line when they go against Strathmore Leos, Impala, and Blak Blad in a competitive Pool C.

Speaking during a training session, Mwanja said: “We are well prepared for this tournament. The pressure is on our side to defend our title. We are in a very competitive pool against worthy opponents and we are going to Kisumu to win.” Said Mwanja.

The bankers won the bronze medal in driftwood sevens a fortnight ago and Mwanja admits the team will go all out to garner as many points as possible and extend their lead in the circuit.

“In our last outing in Mombasa, we lost key players to injury. We have however rested enough and the boys are looking sharp ahead of this tournament. As KCB, we take pride as one of the strongest rugby sides in the country and the depth in our squad allows the technical bench to have enough options to pick for the starting spots. Our mission this weekend is to minimize errors and gather maximum points.” Said Mwanja.

Forward Andrew Amonde believes the boys are well poised to claim the Dala Sevens crown. He says the work put in training assures the team of positive results over the weekend.

“We have worked really hard in training and learned from the mistakes we made in Driftwood and Christie Sevens. We also ask our fans to come to Kisumu to support the team.” Said Andrew.

The team will participate in Prinsloo Sevens in Nakuru County on the weekend of 9 and 10th July 2022 after the Kisumu outing.

KCB Bank continues to invest heartly in local talents to give an opportunity to sportsmen and women to participate in local, regional and global competitions to put Kenya on the map as a sports powerhouse.
