The Kenya Hockey Union (KHU) league will reach its climax at the City Park stadium this weekend with a total of five fixtures on the cards, when the season’s men and women premier league champions will be crowned.

Two men’s premier league fixtures will be in the offing while one women’s premier league fixture that pits Wolverines and Strathmore Scorpions is slated for 11am on Sunday.

The first men’s premier league clash will be contested by Sailors and USIU-A at 6 pm on Saturday while the men’s defending champions Butali Warriors face former champions Kenya Police at 1 pm on Sunday.

Butali confirmed their title defence on January 8 with the Kenya Police match at hand and this weekend’s fixture is just a formality for them, while the former champions must win this last fixture to finish second and thereby join the Warriors in the forth-coming Africa Club Championship set for the mid-next month since only the top two sides will represent the country.

The Warriors will play for pride and finish the season on a high but will also tread with caution against a wounded former champion who must win to book the final ticket in the continental championship, a slot currently held by Western Jaguars who will hope that Butali hears their prayers and beat the law enforcers.

“As Butali will give it our best shot and try to win the game against the police. We respect Kenya Police. They are also a very good team and we always have amazing matches with them. We know they will come out and give it their best shot and on our side, we are also going to give it our best shot.” Butali Warriors team manager Kamal Sembi told People Sports.

Apart from whether or not it will be Kenya Police or Western Jaguars to feature in the 7-day Africa Club championship extravaganza to be hosted at Sikh Union grounds between February 13 and 19th, all eyes will also be on the teams to be promoted to higher leagues and the teams to drop to lower tier leagues as Strathmore Scorpions await to be crowned the women’s premier league champs after many attempts to unseat wounded Blazers.

Two men’s super league fixtures will be hosted at two different venues on Saturday. Sikh Union will be eager to return to the top-flight league with bragging rights against a solid Kenyatta University outfit at the Dashmesh stadium while Mvita and Youngsters will clash at the City Park stadium at 4 pm on Saturday.
