CS Mvurya: CHAN has proved Kenya’s readiness for global football stage

In a statement posted on his Facebook account on Saturday, August 30, 2025, Mvurya congratulated Morocco’s Atlas Lions for lifting the CHAN 2024 trophy and commended the fans, organisers, and partners whose efforts made the tournament a success across Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.
“Hongera to Morocco’s Atlas Lions for lifting the CHAN 2024 trophy! What a spectacular tournament from start to finish!” Mvurya wrote.
Kenya’s potential
The CS emphasised the significance of hosting CHAN 2024 beyond the results on the pitch, noting that the event highlighted Kenya’s organisational capacity and readiness to host more international football fixtures.
“CHAN 2024 has been nothing short of incredible — showcasing the beauty of football in bringing people together and igniting pure excitement across the continent,” he affirmed.
Mvurya further expressed pride in the hosting of the closing ceremony and final match, pointing out that the smooth execution of the tournament opens new opportunities for the country.
“As we draw the curtains on CHAN 2024, we do so with pride — and we open a world of possibilities for more international matches on Kenyan soil, having once again demonstrated our readiness and potential on the global stage,” he said.

Pan-African spirit
His comments echoed those of President William Ruto, who described the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) as a powerful testament to Pan-Africanism.
In a statement posted on his X account on Saturday, August 30, 2025, the Head of State emphasised that the significance of CHAN 2024 extended beyond football results, framing it as a celebration of African solidarity and excellence.
“Beyond the competition, CHAN 2024 has affirmed the spirit of Pan-Africanism. It has showcased the unity, resilience, and immense talent of our continent,” he stated.
Ruto highlighted how the tournament brought together diverse cultures and nations, observing that the packed stands and vibrant displays symbolised Africa’s shared aspirations.
“From North to South, East to West, Africa’s sons and daughters displayed not only footballing brilliance but also the bonds that tie us together as one people,” he stated.
“This celebration of African excellence reminds us that our future is brightest when we stand together,” he added.
