Coach Ngisirei names Kipkemoi as team captain for Youth Games
Kenya athletics national team head coach Robert Ngisirei has named 17-year-old Amos Kipkemoi to captain the team ahead of the 2023 Commonwealth Youth Games slated for Trinidad and Tobago from between August 4 and 11.
Speaking yesterday at the team’s residential training camp Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani in Nairobi, Ngisirei was confident of improving the country’s stats from the recently concluded Africa under 18 championships in Zambia where Kenya finished third overall with 33 medals.
“I am retaining the captain from the Zambia games and hopeful that this time round in Trinidad we can improve on the medal haul. This is a talented squad that I believe will deliver for Kenya,” said Ngisirei who also revealed that he has included under 18 Africa’s 3000m silver medallist Andrew Kiptoo Alamisi and 1500m gold medallist Josephat Kipkirui Sang who were the stars in Zambia back in May this year.
