CHAN 2024: FKF President Mohammed rallies Harambee Stars ahead of Morocco showdown
As the clock ticks, anticipation is mounting at the Moi International Sports Centre in Kasarani, where Kenya’s Harambee Stars are set to face Morocco in a pivotal African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024 clash.
Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed has struck a patriotic chord with an impassioned rallying cry, urging both the team and fans to seize the moment.
“After an impressive performance against Angola, the Harambee Stars will be back in action today in a crucial encounter against Morocco, a step closer to the quarter finals,” Mohammed said, setting the tone for a high-stakes battle.
He addressed the team directly: “To the Harambee Stars, take the momentum from your last heroic performance, channel that adrenaline to today’s match, the whole nation is behind you, go out there and play like the champions we know you are.”

Momentum
Mohammed’s remarks come on the back of Kenya’s gritty 1-1 draw against Angola on August 7, a match that showcased the team’s resilience despite playing with ten men following Marvin Nabwire’s red card. Austin Odhiambo’s well-taken penalty, which cancelled out Jó Paciência’s early opener, kept Kenya unbeaten and atop Group A with four points.
That result not only boosted morale but also strengthened belief in the squad’s ability to compete against the tournament favourites. The draw demonstrated Kenya’s defensive discipline and fighting spirit, vital attributes as they prepare to face Morocco.
Youngsters seize moment
One of the bright spots from the Angola clash was the emergence of Edward Omondi, who was called up late by coach Benni McCarthy to plug injury gaps and replace Mohammed Bajaber following his move to Simba SC.
Making his debut in front of a crowd, Omondi admitted to early nerves. “It was my first time to play in front of such a massively crowded pitch. I was a bit nervous, I have to admit. But it was awesome,” he said.
His near-full-match performance impressed fans and teammates alike, with the youngster crediting the supporters for lifting the team’s energy. “The fans coming in large numbers gave us the motivation to play well. We could not allow them to go home disappointed,” he added.
Fans called to action
Mohammed also reserved words for the public, urging Kenyans to replicate their passionate support. “To the amazing Kenyans, just like you did against Angola, let’s stand together and cheer the Harambee Stars on to victory as they strive for a place in the quarter finals. Go, Harambee Stars!”
With the stakes high, unity in the stands and focus on the pitch could be the driving force Kenya needs to overcome Morocco and take a decisive step toward the last eight.
