Uganda’s Makerere University Business School (MUBS) yesterday got a second win in the ongoing 10th Federation of African Universities Games (FASU) at Kenyatta University.

The win came at the expense of hosts Kenyatta University after both sides had won their respective matches on Monday.

Armed with the knowledge that the tournament will be used to qualify Africa’s representative teams for the FISU University World Cup Soccer 2023 in Jinjiang – China, the visitors took full advantage.

Goals from Munir Said and Raymond Watakire in either side of the half were all the defending champions MUBS needed to carry the day.

It was the second straight win for the 2008 champions after they opened their campaign with a 5-1 rout over the American University of Cairo on Monday.

“As usual, when we come to every game, we mean business just like the name of our school. We take each game like a cup final, so it is not by accident that we have won all our two matches,” said MUBS coach Ayiekoh Lukula Charles.

“I expected a tough challenge against them (KU) because they are playing at home and also have an experienced coach (Tobias Ocholla). Yesterday we had to retire early to have enough energy to conquer the opponent,” said Lukula whose side lead the pool with six points.

On his part, Ocholla said it was a tough match but he expects his charges to redeem themselves in the remaining two matches.

“If you look at the game today, it was one of the most difficult we have ever played. Also, our players are not as huge as their MUBS counterparts so that worked to our disadvantage.

Good account

“Since time immemorial, MUBS have been one of the best sides in Uganda, however, we gave a good account of ourselves,” he said.

Elsewhere, the University of Zambia beat Makerere Univeristy of Uganda 1-0 in the men’s match.

Zulu Weluzant’s was the hero for the Zambia varsity side after notching a first half goal.

“I am happy today because the boys played well after discussing with them last evening after a lot of lapses. I told them we are capable of doing well.

“We played well and defended the game and we are ready for the next game which is University of Development Studies from Ghana,” University of Zambia coach Peter Sayila said.
