After cementing their dominance as the Western Region football champions, Butere Girls High School have set their sights on the 2025 Kenya Sports Secondary Schools Association (KSSSA) national games.

In a statement via its Facebook page on Sunday, July 13, 2025, after edging Madira Soccer Girls School 1-0 to defend their western region girls crown, the Red Commandos were praised for their feat after delivering yet another iconic victory.

Target met

“The long journey began: every stride, struggle, and drop of sweat had to be accounted for. Envisioned, focused in a stormy and bumpy way, Red Commandos delivered to their target and to the promise for their supporters, the great family of Butere Girls High School and the vast Western Region,” part of the school’s statement read.

The team also reserved special mention for the school principal, Jenipher Omondi, and the team’s technical bench for their input towards the success.

“The engine, the school administration, with all your logistical support, Red Commandos are back with the feedback of your expectations. The patronage of our chief principal, Jenipher Omondi, is celebrated in jubilation and recognised in a fashionable way.”

Next hurdles

“The technical team. This crew – Ojenge, Shikanga, Sakwa, Diego, Philip and Leonard – is so pragmatic. It’s a well-oiled machine that executes this role of nurturing talents to the fullest. Your unison and work ethic are really admirable. Keep it up to finish the remaining two hurdles.”

Meanwhile, with the feat sealing a third successive regional title and cementing status as Western Kenya’s finest girls’s football team, Butere’s focus is now on the nationals, as they mull the prospects of featuring in the East Africa Federation (FEASSA) games if the team continues its fine form.

“Clinching it three times in a row is a clear show of sheer determination and agility sprouted from your strong feet. You rise to the occasion to defend the crest of this great school. The morale is high as we take it on to the nationals,” the club’s statement concluded.

In the final clash against Madira on Saturday, July 12, 2025, Clotilda Auma scored the all-important goal to see Butere avenge an earlier defeat from their arch-rivals in the preliminary stage.

The high-paced encounter was staged at the Mumias Sports Complex.
