Kakamega Homeboyz John Buba Omondi has opened up on his dream to feature for the Kenyan national team after his stellar run with the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League side in the 2024/25 season.

Buba, who joined Homeboyz from lower league outfit Compel FC, has been a cog in Francis Baraza’s team, clocking seven assists in the season for the team currently ranked top of the league’s best form on a nine-game unbeaten streak.

People Daily Digital Sports caught up with the former Emanani Muslim student, who shared what has spurred them and dreams of one day turning professional in the future.

On the secret to Homeboyz’s fine form as FKF PL’s most in-form team, Buba said, “Teamwork and the hard work we have put into our training are the reasons for the good form the team is showing.

“Of course, God has also been a factor in this success. We started from low but turned it around after some time. We had a similar long-standing unbeaten run before the loss to Shabana. We managed to put the setback behind us and regain our form for the current league form,” he added.

He also touched on the team’s targets heading to the end of the season.

“We only need to focus on our games and try to win them. At the end of the league, we will see where it leaves us. We know anything can happen, and we only have to focus on ourselves and hope we do well in our remaining matches,” he said.

Buba revealed his personal goals and dreams going forward.

“Representing the national team is a dream every player looks up to, and I’m no exception. I’m ready for it and feel I’m of the right age and experience to take up the call when it comes,” he stated.

On coach Baraza’s impact since joining the team six games into the campaign.

“He is a coach whom we clearly understand his plan and strategies. He also understands his players, and this has made it a seamless working environment. His coming was crucial, as he started with the motivation that the league was just starting. We picked up from there and did what we have done.”

Of particular interest at Homeboyz has been Buba’s camaraderie with his teammate and FKF Premier League top scorer, Moses Shumah.

Despite playing as a defender, he has been one of Shumah’s providers with three assists to the lethal talisman.

Homeboyz will next face Bidco United and Tusker FC in their penultimate and league finale ties, respectively.
