Emmanuel Bor and Nancy Jelagat are the winners of the 12th edition of Re-Discover Nandi Road Race held yesterday in Kapsabet, Nandi County.

Bor who is fresh from claiming bronze in the recently concluded Eldoret City Marathon clocked 28:21:19 ahead of Daniel Kiprotich and Victor Kipchirchir who clocked 28:30:97 and 28:42 respectively.

“My preparations were good, that’s why I was in good shape. I enjoyed the race and I decided to break early and didn’t look back,” said Bor.

Kipchirchir was impressive in the men’s race during the third edition of Eldoret City marathon three weeks ago, clocking two hours, eight minutes and 56 seconds to finish ahead of Leonard Langat who timed 2:10:49. Emmanuel Bor sealed the podium in 2:11:10.

In the women’s category Jelagat, who won the 2019 Family Bank Half Marathon, clocked 31.30 to storm to victory ahead of second-placed Daisy Jerotich who timed 31.38 and Naumi Chepng’eno finished third on 32.31.

“My preparations went on well and I’m happy I managed to win. I didn’t expect to be on the podium but I’m really happy with my performance,” said Jelagat.

Over 500 athletes participated in the race and the  start point was Kapsasur forest through Kapsabet town before finishing at Namgoi High School in Chesumei sub-county.

The winner in both men’s and women’s category walked away with Sh80,000. The first runners up took Sh70,000 while the second runners up walked home with Sh60,000.

The aim of the event is to raise awareness on the importance of conserving water towers and wetlands.

Local Organising Committee chairman Hosae Sanga  thanked Mozzart Bet, Kenya Forest Service and National Health Insurance Fund, among others, for supporting the event.
