Kenyatta University’s Blak Blad coach Bernard Rotich has hailed his charges for a successful Prinsloo 7s outing after earning promotion back to Division One of the Kenya Rugby Union National Sevens Circuit.

Rotich also extended his gratitude to the team’s management and the sports office for their support during the outings on Saturday, August 2, and Sunday, August 3, 2025, at the Nakuru Athletics Club.

”We also thank Kenyatta University’s sports office for their support during this 7s campaign. We started training without certainty that we were going to be facilitated, but through the director of sports, we got facilitated. Much appreciation,” Rotich said.

After struggling at the first leg of the national sevens circuit, Driftwood Sevens in Mombasa last month, Rotich was impressed by the team’s improvement in Nakuru.

Spirited fight in Nakuru

”I give credit to the boys for playing their hearts out throughout the tournament and managing to win it in the end. The win was dedicated to the Wan Yudhee nation out there for their support always. More importantly, it was for the boys themselves who made huge sacrifices to be there and to our beloved brothers who picked up injuries along the way and aren’t able to play,” Rotich added.

”When we got relegated in Mombasa, we made it so clear that we weren’t going to lobby for an invite and that we would endeavour to work our way back up, which we achieved. During the tournament, we always reminded ourselves that we needed to earn the right to even go near the div one stands, and I’m glad the boys earned it.”

The youthful tactician is upbeat ahead of the third leg of the national sevens circuit, Christie 7s slated for Saturday, August 16 and Sunday, August 17, 2025, at the RFUEA Grounds in Nairobi. ”For Christie’s 7s, I’m sure the boys will prepare well, and whoever gets the chance will give a good account of themselves and the team,” Rotich continued.

Blak Blad are placed in Group D of this year’s Christie 7s alongside Mwamba RFC, Nondescripts, and KCB Rugby. With every team in this group boasting a strong rugby tradition, fans can expect closely contested fixtures. KCB won the Drifwood 7s in Mombasa but got humiliated by Strathmore Leos in Nakuru over the weekend.
