Bandari set for a new venue as Mbaraki is closed
Football Kenya Federation Premier League side Bandari FC will be forced to look for an alternative venue as Mbaraki is set for renovations.
The Kenya Ports Authority, which is the parent company of the Premier League outfit, has confirmed that the Mombasa-based venue will be closed for six months.
“This is to inform all our esteemed customers that the KPA Sports Club Mbaraki will undergo renovations of the main field and tartan track for athletics.
“The renovations of the club are in line with the authority’s commitment to provide a standard sporting facility that supports the wellness of members.
“In this regard, we will close the targeted area for six (6) months with effect from March 11, 2024, to allow the contractor to carry out the works.
“During that period, the club will remain open as usual, and we look forward to continuing to provide better service delivery,” KPA said in a statement.
Alternative venue
This means the last high-profile match that will be held at Mbaraki Stadium will be the Bandari-Gor Mahia encounter set for Saturday.
National Super League sides Mombasa Elite and Mombasa Stars will also be affected by the closure. Lower league side Congo Boys have also used the stadium several times to host their matches.
