Archbishop Njenga Girls upbeat about clinching secondary school games throne in Bungoma County

Former East African School Games champions Archbishop Njenga are on a mission to reclaim their past glory in girls’ football at the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) School games.
Their search for football greatness begins today at the Western Region Term Two School championships in Bungoma County.
The quest for success will have its challenges as they face defending champions Red Commandos (Butere Girls), who are in Pool B alongside Lukhuna, Ibubi, and Chakol Girls.
Pool A of the Girls’ soccer has relegated Football Kenya Women Premier League side Madira from Vihiga County, Brenda Girls (Bungoma), Busia’s Kingandole Secondary School, and Archbishop Njenga.
Archbishop Njenga will open their account against Kingandole at Bungoma School (9am), while hosts Brenda Girls will tackle Madira at the same venue.
Their coach, Fred Serenge, is confident that his team will live up to their billing in the games, relying on a deadly duo of Marion Musanga and Elizabeth Mideva to brush off the opposition.
“The Western Region school games is one of the toughest to cruise through. We have teams such as Madira and Butere who beat us last year, but overall, we have stressed them for over 18 years and we want to send them back to where they belong. I am sure my team is well prepared despite some injury concerns.
“Generally, we hope to do well at these championships since we have the experience and a superb attacking combination of Musanga and Elizabeth. My call to the opponents is to show fair play to the players. These games are not a matter of life and death. If your team loses, just accept the results and plan accordingly for the next edition,” Serenge told People Sport.
Rising Starlet’s forward Elizabeth Mideva says they are super excited ahead of their opener and have all it takes to silence their opponents en route to the national finals next month.
“This time we are well prepared and ready for these regional championships. It will not be easy for our opponents since we have mastered their tricks of targeting Musanga and me with the aim of injuring us. We are focused on giving our best so that we can go to the nationals and reclaim our glory,” Mideva remarked.
The Western Region school games also involves action in rugby sevens, volleyball, netball, racquet games, and lawn tennis.
