Ambani discusses AFC Leopards’ FKF PL title prospect after stalemate against Police

By , December 14, 2025

AFC Leopards tactician Fred Ambani has entertained the prospect of pushing for the league title this season, following his charges’ goalless draw against Kenya Police on Saturday, December 13, 2025, in the FKF PL league tie.

Speaking after the clash, Ambani commended his boys for another spirited showing, which he described as a testament to the team’s capability of laying a successful hunt for the elusive title this term.

The draw with Police comes barely a week after the team’s historic Mashemeji Derby victory over Gor Mahia.

Title push

Ingwe upended their fierce rivals in the clash staged on Sunday at the Nyayo National Stadium.

“I feel the boys played. We are showing great improvement from the game against Gor Mahia to this one. I believe if we continue building on this, we are capable of pushing for the title,” he said.

Lucky Police?

Ambani also spoke on the missed chances, stressing that the law enforcers were lucky to pick a point from the clash.

“We are thankful we ended the tie with no major injuries. We had chances lost, and I feel our opponents are lucky to come out with the point. We had a set piece late on where we could have grabbed all three points, but luckily they had a defender who came back across to clear their lines and deny us the win,” he said while ruing the wasted scoring chance.

The clash at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, saw both sides create chances to claim all three points, but the goalkeepers were outstanding throughout the match. Humphrey Katasi of AFC Leopards and Job Ochieng of Kenya Police produced several crucial saves, keeping the scoreline level in a match filled with high-pressure moments.

Ambani hails Katasi

Katasi came to Leopards’ rescue in the 70th minute with a diving save from a long-range strike by Brian Musa. He also denied Eric Zakayo’s close-range attempt in the final minutes. Police were aided by defender David Cheche, who cleared a late goal-bound effort from substitute Kelly Madada to preserve the clean sheet.

“I must commend him (Katasi); he has done a good job. He has improved from the games we have been facing and has been massive for us. I can say he is doing his role for the team,” he added.

With the results. Police FC shot to the top of the pile. The team has now amassed 21 points from 11 games, taking the top spot in the FKF Premier League, one point above Gor Mahia, Kakamega Homeboyz, and Posta Rangers.

AFC Leopards, with 18 points from 12 matches, remain in sixth place.
