Agunda included in Japanese technical bench for New Zealand, England fixtures
Former Kenyan international Patrice Agunda will join Japan’s technical bench in their test matches against New Zealand and England.
The DBA Rugby Academy coach is currently in Japan on a one-month coaching exchange programme with Wazi Wazi, a Japanese organisation supporting Kenyan sporting talents with an aim to enhance Kenya’s rugby coaching expertise.
Sideline stint for Agunda
During his time in Japan, Agunda will be involved with Japan’s national team training camp, the Under-20s camp, and will also get sideline access for Japan’s matches against New Zealand Māori and England. Notably, the Japan-England match will be the first meeting between the two teams on Japanese soil.
The Kenya Harlequin assistant coach will work alongside famous coaches Eddie Jones and Toshiaki Hirose, the recently appointed team manager, as part of the Japanese national rugby squad.
Kenny Andola, Director of the DBA Academy and assistant coach for the Kenyan U20s, expressed his excitement about the opportunities presented to Patrice and DBA through this collaboration with Wazi Wazi.
“Giving Patrice exposure to a top international coaching setup is a dream come true for him. The knowledge and experience he will gain will greatly benefit DBA, our coaches, athletes, and Kenyan rugby as a whole,” he said.
The experience and knowledge gained from the exchange are expected to open new coaching opportunities for him in Kenya and internationally.
Agunda who departed the country for Japan on Friday, May 31, 2024, is expected back at the end of June.
