The Senate has called upon the public to submit comments on the Livestock Protection and Sustainability Bill (Senate Bill No. 32 of 2024).

The Bill was first read in the Senate on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, and has since been referred to the Standing Committee on Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries for further consideration.

Bill’s aim

The principal aim of the Bill is to protect livestock from adverse conditions, particularly drought while establishing sustainable practices to mitigate the impact of such challenges on livestock farmers.

In addition to immediate drought relief, the Bill focuses on building resilience through sustainable farming, effective data management, and cooperative efforts among stakeholders.
