Mbeere North Member of Parliament (MP) Geoffrey Ruku has voiced his support for Raila Odinga’s African Union Chairmanship (AUC) bid. 

Speaking during an interview on Monday, September 2, 2024, Ruku asserted that even though the former prime minister was not cut for Kenya, he is meant for the AUC role. 

Ruku expressed optimism about Raila’s bid saying he is a continental giant who is fully equipped with policies and transformative ideas that will benefit Africa.

“Raila Odinga has never been cut for Kenya, He is meant for the role of AUC chair, we wish him the very best and we are going to give him every support he requires. I believe in the candidature of Raila Odinga as the AUC chair; he is a continental giant and fully equipped with policies and transformative ideas,” he said.

Raila is currently enjoying support immense support from citizens and leaders including his former political nemesis President William Ruto.

Ruto declared support for the former prime minister and urged other African nations to join him in supporting him as he is the most capable steward.

He added that the assignment at AUC is a noble cause that seeks to bring freedom and democracy stability and security, peace and prosperity.

“The assignment we are called upon to undertake at the African Union Commission is the work of all Africans, for all Africans and a noble cause to bring our peoples and nations in touch with the promise of the glorious future we all deserve. A new chapter in our common journey has begun, and we shall travel on this road to freedom and democracy, stability and security, peace and prosperity, with all our people, all their leaders, governments and our partners throughout the world,” Ruto said.

“We take this assignment seriously and have entrusted it to a most capable steward.”
