‘Write off Gor at your own peril’
By Charles Thuku, June 22, 2021
Those who had written off Gor Mahia as potential titlists in the Betking Premier League may be forced to swallow their own words.
At one point in the season, K’ogalo seemed dead and buried following indifferent results, but the team, which is grappling with acute financial problems, is increasingly astounding their critics.
Gor, who were initially lying in mid-table, did the ‘unthinkable’ by beating Sofapaka 1-0 at Thika Stadium at the weekend to prove that they are not a spent force despite their players going for several months without pay.
The Green Army are now third at 37 points behind Tusker with 41 points and table-toppers KCB who have accumulated 42 points thus far in the season.
Either of the leading teams between KCB, Tusker, Gor and AFC Leopards have a chance of winning the league title whose reward is representing Kenya in the money-spinning the CAF Champions League.
K’Ogalo chairman Ambrose Rachier congratulated the players for a job well done in the weekend result, adding that the league gong is theirs to lose.
“People should not read too much into the financial problems bedeviling Gor.
We are trying to look for money in every nook and cranny to make players happy and hopefully, Gor will continue ruling the roost,’’ observed the city advocate.
Meanwhile, KCB coach Zedekiah Otieno said the team is more than determined to prove a point in the top tier league.
