Women Division One Zone B league resumes

After over a month of suspension, the Football Kenya Federation Women’s Division One Zone B League has been given green light to resume this weekend.

Zone B league, which is played within the 13 counties that were declared Covid-19 hotspots last month in Nyanza, Western, and part of Rift Valley, was put on hold with five matches left raising fears that the league might not be completed but new fixtures have been released with six matches on the card this weekend.

“I am happy with its resumption so that our league can go up to the end. Though the fixtures have been tightly squeezed with teams playing two games in one weekend, the fact that we are now assured of playing the remaining five matches is something exciting considering how tight the race for promotion is,” an excited Bunyore Starlets team manager Zacharia Amakhang’a told People Sport.

Amakhang’a said though the suspension of the league has affected their teams’ match fitness, he is hopeful that the league will be competitive as the top three teams fight for the sole ticket to FKF Women’s Premier League next season.

“I know most teams will have issues with fitness level and financial crisis but we are praying that we Amakhang’a. From the new fixtures, Royal Starlets who are third on the log with 24 points will visit fifth-placed Gusii Starlets at Sameta Ground in Kisii from 10am this morning.

At the same time, Bunyore Starlets who are second on the league with 25 points are at their backyard welcoming bottom-placed Bartolimo Ladies at Mumboha Ground.

The final match today will see Bomet Starlets entertain Tombe River Plate at Bomet Stadium will tomorrow from noon. League leaders Solasa Stim a Queens on 26 points host Bartolimo Ladies at Golden Gate in Eldoret seeking to maintain their grip on the league while Tombe River Plate will face Royal Starlets at Tombe Primary School in their second matches of the weekend as Bomet Starlets and former premiership side Nyuki Starlets lock horns at Bomet Stadium in the final fixture of the weekend.
