William Ruto dispatches new ambassadors to new stations
President William Ruto has formally dispatched a new group of Kenyan ambassadors and high commissioners to their overseas postings, saying the task of representing the country abroad is one of the highest callings in public service.
In a statement made on X on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, President Ruto outlined the role and expectations of the diplomats as they take up their new assignments.

The diplomats will represent Kenya in different countries and international forums, carrying responsibility for diplomacy, trade promotion, and the protection of Kenyan interests abroad.
In his statement, President Ruto first reflected on the meaning and weight of diplomatic service, describing it as a role rooted in national pride and duty.
“There is no greater honour in public service than the duty to represent one’s country at the international stage,” part of William Ruto’s statement reads.

He then explained the purpose of the meeting and the significance of officially sending off the envoys to their new stations, emphasising the national trust placed in them.
“Met and officially dispatched several Kenyan ambassadors and high commissioners to their respective stations; the diplomats carry with them the hopes, values, and aspirations of our nation,” President Ruto wrote.
President Ruto went on to outline the core responsibilities given to the diplomats, noting that their work will go beyond protocol to directly serve the interests of Kenyans.
“They have an express mandate to foster mutually beneficial relations, safeguard our national interest, and faithfully represent the people of Kenya with dedication and steadfast commitment,” he stated.

He concluded by linking the diplomats’ work to the government’s broader economic plans, particularly the focus on investment, jobs, and long-term growth.
“Guided by outcomes-driven economic diplomacy and anchored in our new roadmap to transform Kenya into a first-world economy through the National Infrastructure Fund and the Sovereign Wealth Fund, they will pursue strategic trade and investment opportunities that advance our development agenda, create dignified livelihoods for our young people, and accelerate our journey toward shared prosperity,” he wrote.
