Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Cup finalists Kakamega Homeboyz would rather see Tusker lift the premier league title instead of Gor Mahia, to earn them a direct ticket to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Confederation Cup for the first time in their history.

“Whatever happens at the end as long as my young team gets a chance to board the plane and represent the country, I have no issue, but what I know is we still have a good chance to beat Tusker in the domestic Cup final, but if they win the league and earn us a direct ticket the better,” Shimanyula told People Daily Sports.

“We will support Tusker to win the league, and by doing so, we will do our level best to boost their chances by beating Gor Mahia when we play against them away on June 10. We will beat Gor Mahia to help them [Tusker] clinch the title, but then, we are also prepared to play a good final and beat Tusker for our own achievements.”

Shimanyula continued: “It is the first time we are taking part in this tournament and want to go all the way, if Tusker gives us a favour [to earn the Caf ticket], then fine, but we will also give Tusker a favour because we are determined to beat Gor Mahia for them to stay on course for the league title.”

This comes after FKF president Nick Mwendwa told People Sport that Kakamega Homeboyz would represent the country in the Confederation Cup competition if Tusker ends up winning a double this season.

The Brewers stormed the final of the FKF Cup after edging out Ulinzi Stars 1-0 in the semi-finals at Nyayo Stadium on Saturday.

Tusker under Matano are also in the race to win the Premier League title as they are perched at the top of the 18-team table with 64 points from 30 matches, one more than second-placed Gor Mahia, with four matches remaining to end the season. With Tusker set to face Homeboyz in the final of the domestic competition, FKF have clarified should the Brewers triumph on all fronts then the Kakamega-based outfit will earn a direct ticket for continental football next season.

“It is very true that if Tusker ends up winning the league and FKF Cup, Homeboyz will go for Caf Confederation Cup next season,” Mwendwa told People Daily Sports adding: “But if Gor Mahia beats Tusker to the league title, then whoever wins the FKF Cup will go for Confederation Cup.”
