Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina has called on the Kenya Plant Health Inspectorate Service (KEPHIS) to make public details of Kenya’s international exports of bean seeds, including destination countries and export quantities over recent years.

In a statement posted on his X account on Monday, July 28, 2025, the senator said the data is necessary to understand Kenya’s role in regional seed trade and agricultural development. He emphasised the importance of having access to accurate information on export markets to help guide agricultural policies and investment decisions.

“Could KEPHIS kindly publish or share details on Kenya’s international exports of bean seeds — specifically the destination countries and export quantities over recent years? This data would be valuable for understanding the country’s role in regional seed trade and agricultural development.” Ole kina stated.

The call comes just days after Senator Ole Kina launched Enkanasa Beans, the latest addition to his Enkanasa brand. The brand focuses on promoting Kenya’s agricultural potential and economic growth through locally produced products. Enkanasa Beans joins a range of existing products under the brand, including long-life milk, aged beef, honey, and locally made fragrances.

The senator has consistently advocated for increased investment in agriculture as a way to boost Kenya’s economy.

The introduction of Enkanasa Beans, according to Ledama, is part of a broader initiative to tap into local resources, create jobs, and expand Kenya’s presence in regional and international markets.

Economic transformation

This also comes days after calling on Kenyans and media outlets to shift their focus from political bickering to economic transformation, urging that the next 16 months be dedicated to implementing development projects.

In a statement posted on social media, Olekina proposed delaying political evaluations of President William Ruto’s administration until the 2027 elections, stating that constant political commentary is hampering the nation’s progress.

“This is the time to unite and focus on economic development. We can evaluate the president’s performance in 2027. Let’s not allow divisive politics to dominate headlines,” he said.

His sentiments come at a time when the country is grappling with high public debt, rising cost of living, and youth unemployment. Kenya’s Vision 2030 blueprint, which seeks to elevate the country to middle-income status by the end of the decade, remains a key reference point for policy direction, and Olekina believes the conversation must align with such long-term goals.
