WHO pledges help to Kenyans affected by floods amid ongoing heavy rains
The World Health Organisation Regional Office for Africa has announced it plans to help Kenyans affected by floods in the ongoing heavy downpour witnessed in various parts of the country.
In a statement on the World Health Organisation Regional Office official X account on Monday, March 9, 2026, the NGO pledged to work with health authorities to provide health services.
The aid comes at a time when heavy rains have caused flooding with eleven counties majorly affected including the Countries Capital Nairobi.
Following a report by the World Health Organisation, over four thousand households have been displaced, and twenty-seven deaths have been reported.
“Heavy rains have caused flooding in 11 counties in Kenya with damage to homes, farms and critical infrastructure, including health facilities. Over 4,300 households have been displaced and 27 deaths reported,” WHO said.
According to WHO, the aid shall be provided to displaced people while conducting preparedness activities for water- and vector-borne diseases.
“@WHO is working with health authorities to provide health services to displaced people and conduct preparedness activities for water- and vector-borne diseases,” WHO announced.

Gov’t pledge to floods victims
On the other hand, President William Ruto also announced that the government will pay hospital bills of those injured or affected by the flooding and are currently receiving treatment in public health facilities.
In a statement on his official X account on Saturday, March 7, 2026, Ruto noted that the government stands in solidarity with every citizen affected.
This comes at a time when the casualties reported stand at least twenty-seven people following the ongoing floods witnessed in Nairobi.
“In addition, the Government will meet the hospital bills of those injured or affected by the flooding and currently receiving treatment in public health facilities. Emergency humanitarian support will also be extended to families facing displacement and hardship during this period,” Ruto said.
“I extend my deepest condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones during this difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are also with all those whose lives have been disrupted by this disaster,” Ruto said.
On his part, Ruto announced that the government stands in solidarity with every citizen affected and is acting swiftly to alleviate further suffering and safeguard lives.
Ruto has also issued a directive for the immediate deployment of a multi-agency emergency response team led by the Ministry of Interior and National Administration, working closely with the Kenya Defence Forces and other emergency response agencies.
The team will coordinate rescue efforts, support affected communities, and ensure that those in danger are moved to safer locations.
“I have also ordered that relief food from our national strategic reserves be immediately released and distributed to families affected by the floods,” he added.
