Former Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho revealed that the late Prof. George Magoha had one time come close to quitting Uhuru Kenyatta’s Cabinet.

Speaking on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, when he visited the late Magoha’s Nairobi home to condole with the family, Kibicho said that the deceased decided to quit but he later reversed his decision.

“He [Prof Magoha] once wanted to resign. A decision was made but was later reversed and he felt like he had been thrown under the bus. I had to call Prof Kiama to the office and we had a small chat,” Kibicho recalled.

The incident, which made Magoha consider resigning, was over the decision by the University of Nairobi to appoint Stephen Kiama as vice-chancellor after he had revoked it through a gazette notice.

Speaking at the same event (condoling with Magoha’s family), former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i announced that they (former CSs in Uhuru’s Cabinet) would fund the education of the students who were being sponsored by the deceased.

Matiang’i noted that the students were still in school and needed to be supported, adding that retired president Uhuru would lead the initiative.

He explained that his colleagues in the previous administration chose to honour the late CS by carrying on with his work.

“I am told that there are one or two things that Magoha was supporting. My cabinet colleagues under the leadership of our President (Uhuru) will make a contribution. Uhuru had already talked to me to talk with my colleagues and he is willing to support me. Let none of the children suffers on the account of our friend’s departure,” Matiang’i said.

The former CS added he had been tasked to be the link with the family acknowledging that they were supporting Magoha’s family in the funeral arrangements.

‘May the Lord shine His face upon you, May He hold you His Mighty Right hand. May the Lord bless you indeed. And for Micheal may the Lord bless you so that you sustain that name and generation. God will raise you up,” he added.
