Wetang’ula skips Ruto-Raila pact signing, joins Barasa to launch classrooms in Kimilili

Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetang’ula has joined Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa to launch eight classrooms at the Daraja Mungu Primary School in Kimilili after skipping Raila Odinga and William Ruto’s pact-signing event at KICC.
The speaker, during the Friday, March 7, 2025, event spoke highly of the development projects he had earmarked for the region and said that aside from the eight classrooms, he was set to bring more projects, including the construction of a bridge near the same area.
“Hapa Daraja Mungu ndipo mmejitenga sana na mainstream Bungoma. Hiyo ghorofa watu wa CDF wakasema ati ilianza kujengwa bila tender. Nikawasikiza. Alafu nikawaambia, wazungu husema ‘the end justifies the means.’ Walianza kujenga, mjengo uko, umesimama. Pesa haijapotea. Nikawaamrisha wafungue haraka na sasa imesimama. Ile fitina ilikuwa imetoka hapa nikawaita,” Wetang’ula remarked.
The leader also joined the bandwagon of Kenya Kwanza leaders who have been making rounds across the country, promising Kenyans that stalled development projects would be completed. He stated that he was going to ensure the region would be prioritised once the government starts rolling out development projects.
He hailed area MP Didmus Barasa, saying he had been pressuring them at the national level to help build roads in the area and described him as a leader the people should honour because he speaks up for them.
“Huyu Didmus wenu sasa alikuja akatuambia, ‘Baba, kutoka pale kwa Rashid kuja mpaka pale kwa daraja, mvua ikinyesha watu hawatembei. Matope tupu.’ Hiyo lami sasa tutasukuma mpaka ifike hapa kwenu, alafu tuisukume i-connect mpaka Kapkatet,” he assured.
Skipping Ruto’s event
The speaker, however, avoided speaking much about the event at KICC, where President William Ruto shook hands with Orange Democratic Movement leader Raila Odinga as they signed an agreement to work together.
It remains unclear whether his absence was deliberate, but during the Kimilili event, he praised the government’s efforts in ensuring Kenyans were comfortable.
The KICC event was a crucial one and has since become a hot button topic, as it signifies Raila Odinga burying the hatchet and now working with President Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza.
However, hours after signing the agreement, Raila, who had been Ruto’s political rival for the longest time, clarified that the memorandum should not be misunderstood as the formation of a political coalition between their two parties.

However, he insisted that its successful implementation spoke highly of the prospects it could bring, including the establishment of a progressive formation for a stable country.
“We make it clear that the memorandum we have signed today does not define the formation of a political coalition between ODM and UDA. However, its successful implementation could inform the basis of steps towards the establishment of a progressive formation for a stable country in the future,” Raila said.
