Wetang’ula mourns late MP Johana Ng’eno, lauds his parliamentary conduct
By Ndiritu Wanjiru, March 3, 2026National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has eulogised the late Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ng’eno as an exemplary leader whose dedication to public service and parliamentary conduct set a high bar for lawmakers.
Addressing members of the press on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, Wetang’ula described the death of the three-term legislator as a profound loss not only to Parliament but also to the nation at large.
“As parliament, we have lost one of our finest, finest in conduct, finest in debating and finest in leadership, a member who was serving his third term and who was privileged to be the chair of the housing committee,” Wetang’ula.

The speaker has further recalled Ng’eno’s distinguished service and his role as chair of the Departmental Committee on Housing, Urban Planning and Public Works. Under his stewardship, the committee was instrumental in shaping the Affordable Housing Act, 2024, aimed at expanding access to decent and affordable homes across Kenya.
Ngeno’s Death
Ng’eno, a respected lawmaker reelected in 2022 for his third consecutive term representing Emurua Dikirr Constituency, died alongside five others in a tragic helicopter crash in Mosop Constituency, Nandi County, on Saturday, February 28.
All six people on board, including the pilot and members of Ng’eno’s entourage, died in the crash. Authorities from the Aircraft Accident Investigation Department have since launched a probe into the cause of the crash.
Ng’eno and five others to be buried on Friday
Burial plans have now been set, with a requiem mass scheduled for Wednesday, March 4, at the Nairobi Baptist Church, allowing friends, colleagues and constituents to pay their respects. A traditional night vigil will follow on Thursday, March 5, in line with Kipsigis cultural rites.

The final burial service is planned for Friday, March 6, at Emurua Dikirr Primary School, where thousands are expected to gather before the bodies are taken to their respective homes for individual interment later that day, according to family and community leaders.
Wetang’ula, through Parliament, has constituted an ad hoc committee to work closely with the late MP’s family on funeral arrangements and urged Kenyans to remember Ng’eno for his commitment to service, integrity and leadership qualities that left an indelible mark on the political landscape.
